
There is an inherent coolness to the works of many Czech photographers, but the great Josef Sudek is an exception.
Despite the wartime loss of one arm, he tirelessly photographed the city of Prague, producing images of great warmth and affection.
In this shot, which I took in the hallway leading to Sudek’s atelier, the light reflecting off the wall was like a gift from the great man himself, a photographic opportunity of rare moment.
